To Parents in the Netivot Shalom Community – Welcome! Netivot Shalom is a congregation that truly welcomes all ages with great excitement and delight!
We offer the following programs for children on Shabbat:
Ages 2 - Kindergarten - Supervised childcare for children ages two through Kindergarten is available every Shabbat from 10:00 – 12:30 in the Preschool Room.
Children 5 years and under - Shabbat B'Yachad (SBY) brings together families with children 5 years and under and their parents on the 2nd and 4th Shabbats of each month from 11:00-12:15 in the Preschool Room. The program includes tefillah (prayer), songs, Shabbat stories, Torah parade and mini-kiddush. SBY also sponsors holiday celebrations throughout the year. This program is an award winning recipient of a Legacy Heritage Foundation Grant. For further information, contact the program coordinator, Liora Brosbe, at sby@netivotshalom.org.
Kindergarten - 2nd Graders - Rimmonim is an innovative Shabbat morning program for children in grades K-2 and their parents, as well as anyone who wishes to come. Rimmonim meets from 10:30-12:30 the 1st and 3rd Shabbats of each month, Sept.-June. The program includes family tefillah (prayer), a Torah story, and both intergenerational and separate children and adult learning about middot (the core values of Judaism) and a snacks for children. This learning is supplemented by Sunday social projects which put the middot into action. Rimmonim is funded by a generous grant from the Legacy Heritage Innovation Project. Rimmonim is free of charge for Congregation Netivot Shalom member families and offered for an annual donation of $118 to non-member families. For further information, contact the program coordinator, Nina Price, at rimmonim@netivotshalom.org.
3rd - 5th Graders - Orah Ve’Simchah is a Youth Service and Torah Study that meets once a month 11:00 – 12:00 during the school year in the library for 3rd – 5th graders. Parents are welcome too!
1st - 5th Graders - Supervised games and play is available on the second, fourth, and fifth Shabbat of each month from 10:30 – 12:30 in the Rimmonim Room (Room 2) and Room 3 upstairs.
6th - 12th Graders - The Mo’adon Lounge is available every Shabbat for 6th – 12th graders only. Teens enjoying the lounge must have a parent check in with them every 30 minutes or so to maintain safety and proper behavior.
The following guidelines need to be followed so that we can protect the safety of each child and also respect our spiritual home's phyiscal needs: No child of any age is allowed in the next door Berkeley School playground without being accompanied by an adult the entire time – a group of children can be supervised by one adult as long as that adult knows for whom they’re responsible. All areas must be cleaned up and all games / toys returned to their proper locations. Children should either be with their parents or at one of the above programs or childcare locations. These guidelines will allow all of us to share the joy of Shabbat.
