Vision for Tikkun Olam at Netivot Shalom Objective: The Social Action Committee engages in Tikkun Olam, specifically reaching out beyond our immediate members. We have focused on the following areas: • Our Neighbors in the East Bay: Netivot Shalom is one kehilla within a larger community, and any problems within the East Bay are also our problems. • Jews Worldwide: United by our common faith and heritage, we seek to bring material assistance and yiddishkeit to our brothers and sisters around the world. • Environment: We promote actions that flow from the recognition that ALL is Holy. • Education: We teach the value of Tikun Olam through study and action. • Moral: We participate in the discussion of major moral issues of our time such as the death penalty, human rights and discrimination. Benefits: Tikkun Olam is an important part of Jewish life. It helps define who we are. Performing acts of Tikkun Olam as a community brings us together. The sponsorship of Tikkun Olam by Netivot Shalom increases our visibility and credibility in the wider Jewish and civic community and creates opportunities for engaging with people who would not otherwise be involved in or know about our congregation.
